album review for Exposed magazine, by Briony Gaffer.
InMe - Single Of The Weak, taken from their 4th studio album 'Herald Moth' (2009).
InMe: 'The Pride'
The Basics
After disappointing sale figures of their 4th
studio album ‘Herald Moth’ (2009), InMe are back with vengeance and an
all-together more definitive sound in the form of ‘The Pride’. After the
passing of front man Dave McPherson’s father, due to complications from
Alzheimer’s disease, earlier in the year, the album is set to be released via
Pledge Music on March 12th, with a proportion of the funds going to
The Alzheimer’s society. Now…who said music isn’t food for the soul?
The Verdict
After gaining criticism of their highly influenced
mix-matched sound, InMe bite back with a platter of beautifully melodic tunes
on a base of alternative rock. Heavy, almost techno-like, keyboards and
rip-roaring drums are balanced by emotive vocals and memorable chorus’s,
leaving their audience in a pensive trance. The heavy metal feel of ‘Harold
Moth’ has not be cast aside, do not threat, but has merely taken a back seat as
the band take a more song based approach, as McPherson’s improved vocal range
is showcased. My only criticism lies with the song ‘Beautiful Sky Gardens’
which lyrically leaves a lot to be desired; ‘I’m a chameleon, I change my
colours, pink, blue, green, red and so many others’, oh please.
