I first stumbled across Holly Fulton in S/S 10, in the highly overlooked Company High Street Edit, which has become a style bible and text book to those in the know.

In her S/S 10 collection, Holly, originally from Edinburgh drew inspiration from New York’s architecture, in particular the Empire State Building. With this graphic homage to art deco too, Fulton, using a palette of monochrome with splashes of acid citrus lemon and lime, turquoise blue and tangerine orange, has created a fruitful collection so striking it was almost impossible not to take note. With fine lines and futuristic materials or Perspex, Swarovski Crystals and patent leather it is not hard to see why she won the Young Designer of the Year at the Scottish Fashion Awards’10.

Fulton’s jewellery does not disappoint either. Matching her art deco theme, her jewels are
graphic, oversized in industrial greys and metal. They even led to her career highlight, in which “Alber Elbaz telling me I was wearing the biggest necklace he'd ever seen.”

This season (and a couple of years on), Fulton maintains her reputation and her style. Trademark pieces include “A digitally printed, full-length monochrome dress in silk jersey. It sums up my ethos of things that are easy to wear yet luxurious, incorporating my favourite colour combination of black and white, with a feel of contemporary elegance which you can take anywhere.” (Fulton).

With a splash of colour and a collection inspired by “Rainbows, Kit Williams and what it means to be sexy and chic.” Fulton once again effortlessly charms.
