the bits and bobs.
The tele-smashing, bearded, skinny jean wearing Scousers, Sound of Guns, extend their reputation as old fashioned purveyors of athematic indie rock with the release of their second album Angels & Enemies, due to drop on March 5th. Discovered by BBC Introducing, Sound of Guns have toured with The View, taken the festival scene by storm and been nominated for the 2011XFM New Music Award. With the support of Mary Anne Hobbs, Radio One heavyweights and bands including Everything Everything, Miles Kane, The Couteeners and Delphic, it’s now time for Sound of Guns to take centre stage.
what cha thinkin'?
Sound of Guns manage to do something too many bands fail to do when recording: they keep their live sound intact, giving the temptation to over produce a wide berth. Throbbing drums resemble the beating hearts of true indie rock fans, as they offer a platter of anthemic power chords, jangly guitars and rough ‘n’ ready vocals from the undeniably talented Andy Metcalf. The lyrics are quirky yet meaningful, and give way to lengthy instrumentals, leaving their audience in a state of pensive hopefulness. The ten tracks are best suited to festival fields or sticky venues filled to the brim with bopping audiences willing to sing, or even scream, along, especially when it comes to Silicon, Sometimes and Flash of Light which are nothing short of anthems. The band touches down in Sheffield on March16 - Ready, aim, fire!
