When it comes to this time of year folks far and wide suddenly start surveying their year's achievements. Also, at this time of year, it is easy to fall into the trap of believing that you have achieved very little. I am having a few of those thoughts. I cannot shake the feeling that not a lot has changed since 2011.
Yes, I graduated. I finally donned the silly cardboard hat and popped on a pair of heels to walk unto the stage and collect a wee bit of rolled paper which, to the my best knowledge, could be a rolled up instruction leaflet to the latest Smeg refrigerator. Smeg, *sniggers*. Obviously I did not achieve 2012's resolution No4 - 'One shall speak like a lady, without making immature comments nor sexual innuendo'. Damn.
I too, moved to London. Out of the country and into the big smoke. A place where not only will you find a solar powered plastic Queen but, the home to the 2012 Olympic Games.
I found a taste for champagne...and Bieber.
I entered the world of work. I started writing for magazines people had actually heard of and, in some cases, actually read. I started taking my blog semi-seriously, to a wonderful reaction by you, something I am incredibly grateful for.
I ombre'd my hair, it looked shit, I dyed it back.
On a more serious note, when I survey my achievements over the last year I have indeed achieved a fair amount. Things have changed in some aspects of my life and in others, things have stayed the same. Whilst my year has been productive I can, and will, do better. After all, the longer you wait for the future you crave, the shorter that future will be...and yes, I did Google 'inspiring quotes' for that beauty, thank you Google. In 2013 I promise to be better, I shall not settle, nor shall I be, nor be regarded as, lesser than the person I plan to be. Soppy? kinda. I'll stop here, I have indeed had a wine and the chances of me drowning on about how much I love you all and Sugar Puffs is creeping ever closer.
Happy New Year everyone. Make it yours.

ReplyDelete"Everyone says that the brain is the most complex organ of the human body, as a doctor I might even agree. But as a woman I can assure you that there is nothing more complex than the heart, still we do not know its mechanisms. In the reasoning of the brain is logical, in the reasoning of the heart are the emotions." (Rita Levi Montalcini)
